Born in Fontaine-Lavaganne, Anne de Pisseleu, duchess d'Étampes was the mistress of francis i. she was married by him to Jean de Brosses, who became duke of Étampes and governor of Brittany. she was a woman of great culture and exercised a certain degree of political influence. Her rivalry with Diane de poitiers divided the court, which she had to leave upon the king's death. Anne de Pisse-leu converted to Protestantism at the end of her life, and the duchy of Étampes passed in turn to Diane de Poitiers, then to Gabrielle d'Estrées (see house of estrées), and finally to the latter's son, césar de vendôme.
